Karl Malden dies

Left: In 1972 Malden's career was revitalised when he appeared alongside Michael Douglas in the TV detective series 'The Streets of San Francisco'. The pairing of Malden as veteran Lt Mike Stone and Douglas as his rookie sidekick Steve Keller was a ratings success, and the show ran for five years and more than 100 episodes. Right: Malden's new success landed him advertising endorsements including being the face of American Express during the 1970s and 1980s.
