The Korean War

Soldiers of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders prepare to embark for Korea from RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire. After the American army had left South Korea, the North Koreans, under the command of leader Kim il-Sung, launched a surprise attack on June 25, 1950. Within three days, communist troops had taken the capital Seoul and soon after controlled almost the whole peninsula.
At the start of the Cold War, communist North Korea went to war with its capitalist neighbour
