Patients leave the emergency room of the Naval hospital in Mexico City. As people avoid large gatherings and the risk of infection, Mexico's churches have emptied, schools have been closed and football matches played to empty stadia.

The death toll from swine flu has reached 150. Health authorities have warned the current outbreak could become a pandemic.
