Toy story
Etienne Clement is a grown man in his mid-forties, but he still plays with toys - in the name of art. He uses the tacky, mass-produced plastic figurines from his childhood to populate the miniature theatre-lands that he constructs in his east-London studio, and through these he tells a series of dark and peculiar tales. The childish paraphernalia, the pink froth and fairytale castles are all red herrings of course. His photographs are actually sexualised (as in Sans Culottes, above), violent (Zidane's World Cup head butt makes a cameo) and from our point of view and that of Wendy, his unfazed alter-ego watching from the wings uncomfortably voyeuristic.
