Poll Tax Riot, London: London's worst riot in a century took place on March 31 1990, when 70,000 people took to the streets in protest against the Thatcher government's poll tax. What began as a peaceful rally turned into a riot that raged for ten hours. Protestors scaled scaffolding and rained debris onto the police while cars were set alight and buildings damaged; scores of people were injured.
