War without soldiers

New designs for the next generation of unmanned air vehicles (UAVs). Planes without pilots were first developed 20 years ago but the technology for unmanned ground vehicles is not as far advanced.

Early designs for new weapons and vehicles have been unveiled in London by the MoD as a part of their 'Defence Technology Plan'. Developments include unmanned ground vehicles like these, some of which were designed for a national competition to identify promising robotic technology for use in war zones.
