Return of the King

King Arthur and The Knights of The Round Table are here resurrected by Merlin in the year 3000 to help fend off an alien invasion headed by Morgan LeFay. A bombastic take on Britain's greatest myth, certainly, but in the Sci-Fi-drenched pop culture of 1982, Mike W Barr's genre-melding tale was both perfectly timed and a big hit. It was notable also for being DC Comics' first ever "maxi-series". Moreover, it was the first big American showcase of British artist Brian Bolland, cementing his star status on both sides of the Atlantic. In his hands, the wielder of Excalibur never looked so heroic - or so colourful!
