Caught in the Khyber Pass
Pakistani workers in Peshawar cover a military vehicle intended for Nato and US-led forces based in Afghanistan. Due to 15 Taliban hijackings in recent days, Pakistan has temporarily closed the historic Khyber Pass - the only convenient route from Pakistan to Afghanistan - which was once used by Alexander the Great and described by Rudyard Kipling as "a sword cut through the mountains".
Pakistani government employees inspect burned-out trucks at a Nato terminal outside the northwestern city of Peshawar. On Monday Taliban militants launched a pre-dawn raid and torched 65 trucks due to carry supplies for coalition troops based in Afghanistan. In a similar attack on the previous day, militants torched more than 150 vehicles.
