Riot police stand next to a burning car in central Athens on Monday during a third night of rioting that began when police shot dead 15-year-old Alexandros Grigoropoulos in the Exarchia area of the capital. Two officers have been charged – one with manslaughter, the other as an accomplice. Though interior minister Prokopis Pavlopoulos resigned within hours of the incident, rioting quickly spread to the northern capital of Thessaloniki, the western port city of Patras, and as far as the town of Chania on Crete.
