'Chemical Culture Series' by Derek Boshier at Flowers Central, 21 Cork St, London W1S 3LZ, until November 15
Derek Boshier is a name from 1960s Pop Art whose work always continues to be of interest. These paintings could (at first, lazy glance) be placed somewhere in an ongoing tradition that includes Patrick Caulfield, Michael Craig-Martin and Julian Opie - but Boshier's are naughtier and less tidy. Conceptually they're different too; more about the world and what's in it, rather than the reductive sensibilities of the others. Drugs seem to be a theme in this series - whether cheating at sport or 'cheating' at a dinner party (The Dinner Party, 2008 above). Well, drugs are supposed to make you sharper, cleverer and wittier than you'd usually be, aren't they? Recommended.
