The Frieze Art Fair

The Frieze Art Fair is a significant event, and not just in terms of showing important new art in beautiful surroundings. Unlike the banks, it seems doubtful that contemporary art will be nationalised if things go wrong (although there's always a first time), and sales at Frieze should be a reality check of our national finances. But don't count on reality. All we can be certain of is that Frieze is the acme of the art calendar - that over 1000 artists will be exhibiting, and that ten trillion bottles of the sponsor, Laurent-Perrier's, champagne will be deliriously consumed. Oh yes - and that the art will be very cool, like Gillian Wearing's Self Portrait at 17 years old, above.
