Fonda’s comic strip
Erotic sci-fi movie Barbarella has supplied a generation of geeks with fantasy material, and spawned a gamut of pop-culture spoofs and references too. Based on the French comic strip by Jean-Claude Forest, the 1968 film (starring Jane Fonda and directed by her then husband Roger Vadim) was originally an out-and-out flop. These days, of course, it's a cult favourite, with leagues of fans enthralled by Fonda's sexually-charged, 41st-century astronaut and the kinky scrapes she gets herself into. Magnum member David Hurn was the official photographer on set so, for him, taking shots like these was just another day in the office.
