Dystopian dreams

You might accuse Mitra Tabrizian of having a rather bleak outlook on life. Her minimal, clean and even clinical staged photographs take a devastatingly sleek look at the ills of modern civilisation. A be-suited art crowd network intently in an art-free gallery; a new dad blows his brains out with an inane grin on his face; violence and crime go on unnoticed – it silently screams of a dystopian, malfunctioning society where the inhabitants are disengaged automatons more interested in style than content. Before we all slit our wrists in despair though, there’s plenty of parodic humour, vibrant colour and cinematic beauty in there too.
