Black marble: the Earth at night - new pictures from Nasa

Nasa has released a series of cloud-free satellite images that show the glow of natural and human-built phenomena across the Earth in greater detail than ever before. The pictures, which make the planet look like a 'black marble', are made up of images taken by the Suomi NPP satellite between April and October 2012.
