The London Underground turns 150 this week. The oldest subway system in the world carried its first passengers on 9 January 1863. The line ran from Paddington to Farrington via Kings Cross, and now forms part of the Metropolitan Line. The network, which adopted the famous roundel logo in 1908, now consists of 11 lines, 270 stations and carries almost 4m people every day.
