Lingerie model on the run after drugs gang busted
Angie Sanselmente Valencia ran a coke smuggling ring made up of ‘beautiful angels’ say police
A smuggling ring made up of glamorous young women and masterminded by a former lingerie model may sound like something from an Austin Powers film, but an international arrest warrant has been issued for Angie Sanselmente Valencia (above), who is accused of running a drugs empire that supplied Europe and North America with cocaine.
The 30-year-old model apparently set up the operation after splitting with her Mexican boyfriend, a Mexican drugs lord known as The Monster, and set up on her own, hiring "unsuspicious, beautiful angels" as drugs mules.
The girls she recruited were apparently models and beauty pageant competitors. They were paid £3,200 per trip and told to dress "nice, but not flashy" when boarding the planes armed with their cargo of cocaine. At least one woman every day was said to be getting on a flight for Europe and North America.
However, the operation began to unravel when a 21-year-old was stopped at Buenos Aires airport in Argentina last year carrying 55kg of coke in her luggage. She co-operated with police and said she made no effort to hide the drugs as she had been told no one would stop her at the airport, according to Argentine newspaper La Nacion.
Police arrested three people within hours of the woman being stopped, but so far they have failed to track down lingerie model Valencia. She was believed to have been staying in a Buenos Aires hotel after moving to Argentina from her native Colombia last year, but she had vanished by the time the authorities got there.
The only other lead they had was her Pomeranian lapdog - an essential item for any self-respecting lingerie model - but the address where the pet was registered turned out to be a warehouse.
The glamorous crime boss is now thought to be on the run in Argentina or Mexico. ·
