Will Brown quit for a global economy job?

The Mole: The rumour mill is buzzing that Gordon Brown is heading for a dignified exit, says our Westminster insider

LAST UPDATED AT 22:51 ON Fri 25 Sep 2009

So, Gordon Brown finally got his photo op - sorry, meaningful bilateral talks - with President Obama in Pittsburgh. Which means he flies home for the Labour party conference with the full set - a cuddle from Bono, a kiss from Michelle and a big warm smile from Obama. Beat that, David Cameron.

The meeting with the President gave Brown the opportunity - which he grasped with both hands - to tell journalists that reports of a rift between Britain and America were "completely without foundation". Feeling a little cocky, he even added: "I think you guys should start to understand how international meetings work."

But with the talk of an awkward post-Lockerbie split duly quashed, another rumour has been catching fire on the eve of the Brighton conference.

It is that moves are afoot to enable Brown to duck out of the next general election with dignity. The excuse will not be a health problem, nor depression, nor failing eye sight - all mooted in recent weeks - but a big shiny job in charge of global economic stability.

Two factors are responsible for the rumour: one, Brown's successful trip to New York and Pittsburgh, including the world statesman award presented on Tuesday, and, second, yesterday's announcement that Shriti Vadera, one of the PM's closest friends and allies, was quitting as business minister to take a job with the G20.

The first of these is simple to explain: as many of his friends will tell you, Brown is considered a towering figure on the world stage. He is not the first world leader to be treated as a serious man abroad and a dunderhead at home. Gorbachev had the same problem in spades; so did Tony Blair by the end.

The second factor arises out of Westminster observers scratching their heads over Baroness Vadera's sudden departure. Iain Martin, blogging for the Wall Street Journal, is not the only one pondering whether there is more to it than meets the eye. Was her move, he asked, set up "as a precursor to him [Brown] standing down and moving this autumn to become some kind of global economic stability czar (specialist subject, national debt)?"

Others are saying much the same, and the odds on an early departure - and, because the country will not accept a second Labour 'coronation', an early election - are expected to narrow. Exciting times. ·

Little people and political parties can make a bit differance, look what took place when the commies gave up in eastern europe. We owe it to ourselves to vote in some new blood to "government",I am for the English Democrats and the dream of our own English Parliament-Bring it on !

Well i do not believe he will step down. Its all Media hype.
Do you lot want to take us back to the misery of the tories.????

Gordon Browns Labour Party conference will be known in history as a big charade. As meltdown approaches the cabal which Gordon Brown has garnered to support his waning fortunes will get their pound of flesh (whilst the genuine Labour Party supporters are sleeping at conference). A nuclear strike on Iran before exiting office !! We should beware that this falsehood is not foisted upon Great Britain. GB has already acquisced to their quid pro quo - witness Miliband's recent changing of JackStraws 'inconcievable' position.

Conference has to be alert and VEHEMENTLY stamp down on this falsehood before a great sin is laid at the door of the British Nation in pursuit of their settlement interests. There is also a rising crescendo from their kin in the media too.

Enough said - perhaps that destiny will be the last nail on the coffin of the union. The truth will become clear as we watch the Oxbridge CIA spy (who is now trying to hide behind a newly found spiritual facade) making a subtle pitch for this course of action.

Well, whatever happens, good bloody riddance!

We can only live in hope

Britain's favourite Asperger's-syndrome catastrophe has wrecked the UK Economy - so now they're going to find other economies for him to wreck too! A gutless useless wanker of a man, who never dared to face the UK voters who want to see him swing.
