A man has died after being gored in his lung and neck during the famous running of the bulls around the streets of Pamplona.

The traditional event, part of the Basque festival of San Fermin, sees tourists come from all over the world to run with half-tonne bulls around the streets of the historic Spanish town.

The ritual gained global renown after Ernest Hemingway wrote about it in The Sun Also Rises. This year, about 2,000 people have been running the 825 metre course, many of them wearing the historic white costumes and red scarves, every morning of the nine-day festival.

Daniel Jimeno Romero, 27, was taken immediately to intensive care but doctors were unable to save him. Fernando Boneta, who organises the festival's medical services, said that the bull's horn pierced the runner's body "at the height of the left-hand superclavicular region" and subsequently took "a downwards trajectory that affected the left lung, tha aorta and the vena cava".

Bystanders say that one bull, which became detached from the others, started repeatedly attacking runners and tossed one into the air and then attacked him on the ground before he was pulled away by the tail and horns.

Nobody has died running with the bulls since 1995, when Matthew Tassio, a 22-year-old American, was gored. In total, 15 people died during the course of the last century. ·

This incident is one of the negative scenario of the bull running practice. The running of the bulls is an ages old event which draws countless would-be daredevils to Pamplona, Spain. But now the Phoenix suburb of Cave Creek might have its own annually bull run event. However, the event will have taken place without the blessing of town officials. Where is the ire of the so-called religious leaders of these godless people? Where is the outrage when members of their own flock inflict abominations upon God's other creations? It is my own tradition to applaud the bulls... kudos to the bull!

Bring 'em on! Hope there are more deaths of hominids in this sick taunting of animals who have no choice in being used for testosterone fueled idiocy. How about allowing any bull which kills a taunter a natural life span rather than being turned into food shortly after this sick display?
