Transfer window spending record smashed

A week before the transfer deadline, Premier League clubs have splashed out £1.17bn

Premier League clubs have spent a record sum on transfers during the summer transfer window - and there's still one week to go.

According to Deloitte's Sports Business Group, as of 9am this morning total gross transfer expenditure by Premier League clubs stood at £1.17billion. This is a new record for a single window.
