Martial set to stay

Anthony Martial will not be leaving Manchester United this summer after all, thanks to the performances of England and Belgium at the World Cup.

The Frenchman has failed to shine at Old Trafford during his three seasons there and was expected to be offloaded during the transfer window, with Juventus and Spurs both said to be keen on the 22-year-old, says the Daily Mirror.

“But with Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford on extended breaks following their World Cup exploits in Russia, Martial will be given the opportunity to shine in their enforced absence.”

With his attacking options limited Jose Mourinho is expected to start the season with Martial up front.

“The forward, left out of France's World Cup-winning squad because of a lack of game-time at United, has been given a reprieve by Mourinho, who is understood to have told Martial it is now or never for him this season,” says the paper.

Rebic deal moves closer

United’s pursuit of Croatian World Cup finalist Ante Rebic has been given a boost after his current club, Eintracht Frankfurt, identified a replacement, reports the Daily Star.

United could be “edging close to a deal” after it emerged that the German club are interested in Sporting Lisbon star Francisco Geraldes, who is a similar player to winger Rebic.

Juventus want Lindelof

Chelsea’s pursuit of Juventus defender Daniele Rugani could have an impact at Old Trafford, with reports in Italy suggesting that the Serie A champions have identified a Manchester United player as his replacement.

According to Calciomercato, Swedish centre back Victor Lindelof, who failed to impress after joining United last summer, is on their shortlist of targets, along with Diego Godin and Jose Maria Gimenez.

Sandro deal on hold

Luke Shaw’s performances on United’s US tour could determine whether or not the club make a move for Juventus defender Alex Sandro, reports the Daily Express.

“The Red Devils have been quoted a price by Juventus,” says the paper. “But Mourinho is stalling, such is his determination to give Luke Shaw a shot at redemption.”

The left back will be given “one final chance to show his worth” in pre-season.
