Meningitis kills 700 babies and children worldwide every day, and leaves thousands disabled. In the UK alone, there are around 3,400 cases a year, with more than half of the cases occurring in children under five. Meningitis is one of the world’s most neglected and under-resourced diseases, yet it can be prevented by better treatment and vaccination. We work to reduce death and disability by funding research into prevention, detection and treatment. Our research has helped cut the meningitis death rate in the UK in half since 1990.
