Raising awareness of altruistic kidney donation

Give a Kidney aims to raise awareness of "altruistic" kidney donation; the giving of a kidney by a healthy living person to someone in need of one from the NHS transplant waiting list. Since 2007, more than 370 people have donated a kidney in this way. About 5,700 people in the UK are waiting for a kidney and around 300 people die each year in need of one, yet humans only need one kidney and most of us have two. The charity raises awareness of altruistic donation through various channels including PR/media, web and social media, and through members giving talks to interest groups and attending events. It can also match those considering donating to someone who has already donated, so they are able to ask questions of someone who has been through the process. Please visit www.giveakidney.org.
