Psychoanalyst Coline Covington detects symptoms of autism among the Frieze artworks
The art world descended on Regent's Park last night for the launch of its annual hurrah, the Frieze Art Fair 2008. Industry stalwarts like Charles Saatchi mingled with the new generation (including Dasha Zhukova, centre, with Olympia Scarry, left, and Mollie Dent-Brocklehurst, right) and a host of celebrity enthusiasts such as teen-actress Emma Watson, singer Lily Allen and film director Sofia Coppola.
The Frieze Art Fair is a significant event, and not just in terms of showing important new art in beautiful surroundings. Unlike the banks, it seems doubtful that contemporary art will be nationalised if things go wrong (although there's always a first time), and sales at Frieze should be a reality check of our national finances. But don't count on reality.
