The brief from photographer Rankin was simple enough: Destroy. Seventy musicians and visual artists - including Damien Hirst, Debbie Harry, Kylie Minogue and REM frontman Michael Stipe - who had been shot by the Dazed & Confused founder were told to "do something to the [iconic shots], something that's totally unique and original, and theirs. If they wanted to make a painting, or put targets on it, or smear paint all over themselves, or rip themselves up...
Rankin Live is a show of two halves. For glamour junkies there is Rankin Retrospective, the first ever of Rankin's career, which takes in his fashion and celebrity photographs since co-founding Dazed & Confused magazine in 1991. Shot with good-natured irreverence, here you'll find Vivienne Westwood and Damien Hirst pulling silly faces, Debbie Harry avoiding the camera (above), Blur transformed into Pop Art and Hugh Grant cracking on to a mannequin.
