Nike to release self-lacing trainers in 2015
Designer teases Back to the Future fans with hint of Marty McFly's self-lacing trainers
THE self-lacing trainers worn by Marty McFly in Back to the Future are destined for the high street, according to Nike designer Tinker Hatfield.
He made the surprise admission after being quizzed during an interview yesterday, reports specialist website Sole Collector.
"Are we gonna see power laces in 2015? To that, I say Yes!" he said. Nike has yet to comment, but it patented power-lace technology in 2010.
The Independent points out that a release next year would make sense given that the scenes in which the trainers make their appearance in Back to the Future 2 are set in 2015.
In 2011, Nike auctioned off 1,500 limited edition MAG trainers (pictured above) - exact replicas of the high-top models worn by McFly, but without the self-tightening laces.
The limited edition shoes fetched $6m at auction with film, fashion and trainer fans all looking to own a piece of history. Proceeds from the sale went to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
