Schofield ambushes Cameron with list of ‘Tory paedophiles’
Prime Minister was confronted on ITV's This Morning by host Philip Schofield with names linked to abuse case
DAVID CAMERON has been presented with a list of alleged Tory paedophiles live on TV – and it is being claimed that the names were clearly visible to viewers at home.
The Prime Minister had clearly been expecting the usual gentle ride accorded to politicians by ITV1’s This Morning chat show, having posted on Twitter beforehand that he was looking forward to talking about Government plans for dementia care.
But host Philip Schofield, a former children's TV presenter not renowned for his political nous, had other ideas, turning the conversation to the row over alleged child abuse by Tories in North Wales.
"It took me about three minutes last night to continually find a list of the same names. I have those names there, those are the names on a piece of paper, you know the names, will you be speaking to those people?" he asked the PM, before handing him a piece of paper (see video below) bearing the names of three Tories alleged to have been involved in sexual abuse of boys in care in North Wales.
A clearly flustered Cameron told Schofield: "I think this is really important Philip, because there is a danger if we're not careful that this could turn into a sort of witch-hunt particularly against people who are gay."
The PM didn't look at the names Schofield showed him, and went on: "I've heard all sorts of names being banded around and what then tends to happen is, of course, everyone sits around and speculates about people. Some of whom are alive, some of whom are dead.
"I do think its very important that anyone who's got any information about any paedophile no matter how high up in the country or whether alive or dead go to the police. This is very important."
In a separate development which could be legally damaging for ITV, Guido Fawkes is claiming that the names on the list were clearly visible as Schofield handed the card over, although the blogger has carefully redacted them in a grab on his site.
