Manford quits One Show over sexy Twitter pics
Four months after replacing Adrian Chiles, edgy comedian Manford escapes saccharine magazine show
Comedian Jason Manford has quit his job presenting the BBC's flagship magazine programme The One Show after admitting he flirted with "10 or 12" female fans online.
Manford has been in the job for just four months after taking over from Adrian Chiles, who moved with his co-host Christine Bleakley to ITV's Daybreak morning show.
The comedian had already apologised to his wife and fans earlier this month after it was revealed he received intimate images of a female fan over the microblogging site Twitter.
But in today's Sun, Manford admits to a string of online dalliances
over Twitter and the internet voice messaging site Skype.
"There were 10 or 12 people flirting and then with a few it went over the line," he says in a confessional interview. "We would start off flirty, then innuendo and then a bit saucy. There were moments I thought 'I shouldn't be saying that'.
"I went on Skype with a few girls. They also sent pictures on Twitter. It all happened on tour.
"It was just nice to have some interaction I suppose. But the next
morning I would wake up and think 'Fuck. Oh my God'."
Manford said in statement: "I have decided after careful consideration to step down from The One Show to concentrate on my family and tour commitments."
In truth, although The One Show has raised his profile, the edgy Salford comedian has never looked particularly comfortable on a
saccharine magazine show presenting items about Prince William and Kate Middleton's engagement and why we're having such a lovely autumn.
He says he has confessed everything to his wife and they are still
together. "The relationship we have is not about, 'Right, get out!' or 'You're on the couch'."
Maybe not, but it looks like she has banned him from Twitter. A search for the comedian's account, @Jason_Manford, which had more than 200,000 followers before today, is now met with the message that the profile has been suspended.
That hasn't stopped 'Manford' being the top trending topic on Twitter in the UK this morning.
