Don't write Virgin off, says Branson
War with British Airways boss Walsh escalates
Virgin founder Richard Branson has escalated the war of words with arch-rival British Airways by offering its boss Willie Walsh a £1 million bet, according to The Independent. Walsh said at the weekend that he did not believe the Virgin Atlantic airline name would exist in five years time as Singapore Airlines is selling its 49 per cent stake to Delta, a US carrier. But Walsh's speculation that Branson would sell the rump of the business was scoffed at by the iconoclastic entrepreneur. He has offered to bet Walsh that Virgin will still be around.
