THE BODIES of at least 71 young men with their hands bound and bullet wounds to the head have been found in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo in an atrocity which has the "hallmarks of an organised execution".

A video posted on YouTube by activists last night (below) showed grieving relatives attempting to identify the dead in a school yard. The Daily Telegraph reported that government and rebels were blaming each other for the latest massacre in Syria's second city. There were signs, the BBC reports, that blood had been poured over the bodies.

UN-Arab League envoy Lakhdar Brahimi warned "unprecedented levels of horror" had been reached in the country. He said Syria was being destroyed "bit by bit" as the bloody conflict continued and pleaded with the international community and the UN Security Council – which is split over the issue – to intervene.
According to the UN, more than 60,000 people have been killed in the 22 months since the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad began.
