Dolphin bites eight-year-old girl at SeaWorld - video
Family video catches SeaWorld dolphin leaping up and biting girl’s hand during feeding time
A FATHER managed to capture on camera the moment his daughter was bitten by a dolphin at SeaWorld in Orlando.
Jillian Thomas, eight, was feeding fish to the animals at the popular tourist attraction, when one dolphin jumped up and nipped her arm. She was left with bruising and teeth marks on her arm and hand.
The video was posted by her parents on YouTube “so others can make an informed decision about whether or not the risks to yourself or your child are worth the experience”.
Her father, Jamie Thomas, told the Orlando Sentinel that he and his wife were unhappy with the way SeaWorld employees appeared to trivialise the incident and said they hoped the video would “put pressure on SeaWorld to make some changes”.
SeaWorld officials responded with a statement saying: "Nothing is more important to us than the health and safety of our guests, employees and animals. Educators and animal care staff were at the attraction when this happened and immediately connected with the family."
But they added that visitors are instructed not to wear loose jewellery, touch the dolphin's head and under no circumstances move the paper tray holding the fish from the edge of the pool. In the video, Jillian can be seen lifting the tray as she asks her mother for more fish.
