The newly re-elected president wiped away tears as he thanked staff at his Chicago campaign headquarters

BARACK OBAMA wept yesterday as he paid tributes to the tireless efforts of party staff who had helped him achieve a second term in the White House, a video released by the campaign has revealed.

The natural eloquence that the president showed in his tour de force victory speech in the early hours of Wednesday morning deserted the president as he addressed Democratic party workers at his campaign headquarters in Chicago.

After being introduced by his campaign manager Jim Messina, lurking right of screen with party strategist David Axelrod, Obama gave a halting performance as he was overcome by emotion and perhaps the mental exhaustion of what has seemed like a never-ending campaign.
