Tommy Robinson arrested at Center Parcs over assault

The Sun claims police were called to holiday resort in Bedfordshire on Sunday

Far-right activist Tommy Robinson was arrested on Sunday afternoon at Center Parcs in Bedfordshire after an altercation with another guest, according to The Sun.

Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, is the former leader of the far-right English Defence League and anti-Islam campaigner who later worked with Ukip.

The 37-year-old was arrested on suspicion of common assault in the “tropical dome” of the holiday resort in Woburn and has been bailed until 2 April. The Sun cites a source, who claims Robinson confronted another man before “smacking” him in the face.

The paper says the dome was “packed with families” at the time. The other man was given medical treatment but did not go to hospital, it adds.

A spokesman for the holiday camp told the paper: “I can confirm that an incident occurred at Center Parcs Woburn Forest on Sunday afternoon to which the police attended.”

Bedfordshire Police said: “We were called at around 1.10pm on Saturday (March 1) to a report of an altercation between two men at Center Parcs, Woburn Forest. One man sustained an injury to his face, and received first aid at the scene.

“A 37-year-old man from Bedford was arrested on suspicion of common assault and has been bailed until 2 April. An investigation is ongoing.”
