World Cup group G: Belgium beat England to finish top

Group G results and final standings

World Cup group G guide Belgium Panama Tunisia England

Belgium secured top spot in World Cup group G after beating England 1-0 in their final match in Kaliningrad.

In the other group encounter Tunisia got their first points of the tournament when they beat Panama 2-1.

Both Belgium and England had already secured qualification before the final match so both team coaches gave game-time to their squad players. Belgium boss Roberto Martinez made nine changes while Gareth Southgate made eight.

The teams went into the half-time interval goalless but Adnan Januzaj made the breakthrough six minutes into the second-half when he curled a shot past England keeper Jordan Pickford.

Belgium’s victory means they will now face group H runners-up Japan in the World Cup round of 16 in Rostov-on-Don on Monday 2 July at 7pm.

Then on Tuesday 3 July England play group H winners Colombia in Moscow at 7pm.
