Paris Fashion Week: from 'human backpacks' to Terminal Chanel

Rick Owens show wins plaudits for his 'flesh-and-blood accessories' – in pictures

Cult designer Rick Owens "stole the season" at Paris Fashion Week by sending his models down the catwalk with human backpacks.

The "flesh-and-blood accessories" were described as "moving" and "a tribute to female strength" by fashion critics in the room, while the mainstream media was left baffled, with headlines such as "What!?" and "Does my bum look big on her?"

Either way, Owens's presentations are "fast becoming the most talked about of the season", says The Guardian, winning plaudits from fashion industry peers as well as blanket media coverage.

Meanwhile, Karl Lagerfeld transformed the Grand Palais into "Terminal Chanel", complete with airline "staff", boarding passes for guests and a departures board at gate No 5.

Manish Arora also welcomed press to his "disco gypsy land" in the French capital's Faust nightclub, where models were decked out in colourful, densely embroidered designs. "I was thinking Jerry Hall and Bianca Jagger at Studio 54, but mixed and matched with my Indian-ness," he explained.

The last of the "big four" fashion weeks, Paris Fashion Week continues until Wednesday, with other shows including Balmain, Lanvin, Maison Margiela, and Dior at the Louvre.
