From desperate refugees to the struggling NHS – it has been a year of tragedy and misfortune for many

The headlines this year have been dominated by war and terror, with the Syrian conflict forcing millions to flee their homes, and attacks carried out by Islamic State in France, Tunisia and Egypt.

2015 has also been the year of the corporate scandal; Fifa and Volkswagen are both under investigation for serious wrongdoing and the allegations continue to snowball.
