Koenigsegg unveils gold-trimmed, diamond-filled Agera RS

When it was revealed at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, the Koenigsegg Agera RS was almost overshadowed by the supercar-maker's other introduction – the madcap, 1,800bhp, single-gear Regera.

Consequently, this newest version of the Agera has had to fan its feathers a little.

Deliveries of the hardcore hypercar are beginning – the first one appeared in US spec at Monterey Car Week earlier this month, although this one will be the first Agera RS to be united with a European owner.

Called the Agera RS "Naraya", the car has undergone a fairly lavish personalisation makeover at the behest of its unnamed owner, with several blinged-up, stand out-features.

The bodywork is exposed carbon fibre, although this version has been tinted with a blue glaze. Even the carbon fibre tub holding it all together gets the dye job.

There's a smattering of gold in places, too. Genuine gold-leaf trim is used inside and out, stuck onto the tips of the wing, the exhaust, wheel nuts and rear grille. The detailing was applied and turned by hand at Koenigsegg's factory and it took a craftsman two full weeks, working 12 hour days, six days per week.

Inside, there's more gold leaf trim on the likes of the vents, although most of the cabin is finished in blue alcantara with gold piping. The nameplate affixed to the steering wheel is a piece of jewellery, too, made from 18 carat yellow gold and more than 150 diamonds.

The added weight of all that precious metal and stone isn’t likely to make the Agera RS a slouch, though. Under the bonnet sits a 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 throwing out a monstrous 1,160bhp and 944lb-ft of torque, sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed paddle-shift operated gearbox.

The dazzling car is set to be displayed at the Salon Prive concours show in the grounds of Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire, this weekend, alongside two more Koenigsegg creations.
