As London Fashion Week brings to the fore the very latest in style, Sotheby's is celebrating a rich heritage of design with a series of special talks, events and showcases to coincide with the event.

Taking place from 16 to 21 September, Luxury Week brings together some of the auction house's specialists, alongside others experts in their fields, to delve deep into jewellery, art and more.

As part of Sotheby's Contemporary Curated series, accessories designer Anya Hindmarch has been invited to hand-pick a selection of artworks to be exhibited before going under the hammer on 20 September. The collection includes more than 130 contemporary pieces that have inspired and informed her work.

"I think what really drives a great art collector is passion. You've got to love it and the impulse has got to be authentic," says Hindmarch. "I know when I see a beautiful piece or something that affects me, I can't not have it.

"I love the way Contemporary Curated brings together a new audience and allows people to look at a very personal edit – it's an amazing opportunity to be able to pick what you really love and really respond to."

Luxury Week kicks off in suitably glamorous style with a late-night opening event on Friday. As well as the chance to preview the guest-curated exhibition, visitors will be able to view a number of precious creations from revered jewellery houses such as Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels. A spotlight will also be shone on aboriginal art, bringing together artefacts spanning more than 200 years. Photographer Jimmy Nelson will also present his latest project, Before They Pass Away, a visual documentation of 35 indigenous communities across the globe.

Sunday's events will be dedicated to all that sparkles, with a programme of talks, produced in collaboration with Harper's Bazaar, exploring the jewellery industry both past and present. Deputy editor Lydia Slater and Jessica Wyndham, the head of jewellery sales at Sotheby's London, will run through the top trends in buying.

Meanwhile, Harper's Bazaar's executive fashion, beauty and jewellery director Julie-Anne Dorff and Sotheby's senior international jewellery specialist Daniela Mascetti will tackle the vintage market, with tips on how to successfully mix different eras of jewels into one look. Over the afternoon, there's also the opportunity to have your portrait drawn by illustrator Michalis Christodoulou, who has worked with the likes of Chanel, Bulgari and Boucheron.

Tickets to the events on Friday and Sunday can be purchased via Eventbrite. sothebys.com
