'Drunk driver' hits helicopter
An alleged drunk driver has crashed a car into a rescue helicopter, according to police in New Mexico. The aircraft was parked on a closed roadway with a fire engine either side of it as rescue workers attended to an earlier accident. Officials say the driver had driven around one of the fire engines before hitting the helicopter and then crashing into the second fire engine.
Swimming fan spots 'suspicious mole'
Australian Olympic gold medallist Mack Horton has thanked a spectator who spotted a "suspicious looking mole" on his chest during the Rio Olympics. The spectator emailed the swimming team doctors, suggesting Horton get the mole checked out, leading to minor surgery to have the growth removed from his skin. "Good call," Horton wrote on Instagram. "Very good call."
Escaped emu causes chaos
Police in Cape Canaveral, Florida, spent more than an hour trying to catch an emu. The bird, named Taco, jumped over the four-foot fence around its enclosure after it was spooked by a stray dog, and headed for a local Irish pub. It's the second time Taco has escaped: in 2012, police spent two hours trying to catch the bird as it ran along roads at up to 30mph.
