Teen driver crashes into police car while 'taking topless selfie'

Texan student said she was posing for Snapchat photo while waiting at red light, says arresting officer

A 19-year-old driver was taking a "topless selfie" when she crashed into the back of a police car in Texas, according to police.

Miranda Rader, a college student, allegedly had an open bottle of wine in a cup holder next to her when the collision took place about 100 miles north-west of Houston on Wednesday.

She was trying to put her blouse back on when she was approached, said the arresting officer.

"I asked her why she was not dressed while driving and she stated she was taking a Snapchat photo to send to her boyfriend while she was at a red light," officer John Sartell wrote in an affidavit.

He added he "heard the sound of a vehicle braking hard and heard what sounded like a vehicle collision", reports US news site Heavy. Two witnesses told police they saw Rader's SUV "driving recklessly" before she collided with the back of the patrol vehicle.

Sartell said Rader's eyes were glassy and she "swayed continuously" during alcohol tests at the scene.

"She stated that the open bottle of wine was from when she was drinking at a friend's house," he wrote.

"I asked how much she drank and she stated that she drank a little over a quarter of the bottle."

Rader, who has not responded to media requests for comment, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and released on a bond of $2,000 (£1,640).
