Revealed: The five cars most at risk of being stolen
Porsche 911 Carrera 4S and Ford Fiesta Zetec among the UK's most desirable vehicles for car thieves
A report from vehicle-tracking website MyCarCheck has revealed the five most sought after vehicles for car thieves in the UK last year – and premium brands from Britain and Germany lead the list.
Using information from police records and the DVLA, the study details the vehicles that returned the highest per cent of stolen warnings through the site's vehicle registration check. Cars included in the list have been searched for at least ten times and returned a minimum of two stolen warnings.
It found that one in six user searches for Porsche 911 Carrera 4S number plates returned stolen warnings, while one in 11 Mercedes-Benz CLC 220 Cdi Sport Auto had also been reported as stolen.
That top marques head the list is hardly surprising considering their high market value. However, the inclusion of the Honda Jazz and Ford Fiesta in the top five shows that vehicles of all price points can be targets for car thieves.
"Vehicle theft is on the rise for the first time in 20 years," says MyCarCheck boss Roger Powell, citing last month's British Crime Survey, which reported an eight per cent rise between April 2015 and March 2016.
The five cars most at risk of being stolen are:
- Porsche 911 Carrera 4S
- Mercedes-Benz CLC 220 Cdi Sport Auto
- Range Rover Evoque Dynamics D4A
- Honda Jazz SE CVT
- Ford Fiesta Zetec
