New London skyscraper will feature a 'climbing window' 410ft above the ground
Spectacular views guaranteed as workers scale the building's glass walls in their lunch breaks
If you've ever wondered what it was like to climb up a London skyscraper then the new development at 22 Bishopsgate may be just the ticket.
Not for the faint-hearted, the planned super skyscraper - dubbed TwentyTwo - will let workers spend their lunch breaks scaling the office building's glass walls, 410ft above the ground, but - sensibly - on the inside of the glass rather than the outside.
Climbing holds will be installed directly to the inner face of the skyscraper's exterior wall, "meaning employees will be able to work on their inner core whilst admiring stunning views of the city," says the Daily Mail.
The climbing window is the centrepiece of fitness facilities at the heart of office building at 22 Bishopsgate, which is being developed by AXA IM Real Assets and Lipton Rogers Developments with a 'wellness' theme.
TwentyTwo takes up 1.275 million square feet of office space, that will include startups, large businesses and smaller ones.
The tower will be among the tallest buildings in the capital's financial district - once it is developed on land previously planned for Pinnacle Tower.
"We recognise the role of the office has changed, with workplaces now needing to do so much more than simply accommodate people," Sir Stuart Lipton, partner at Lipton Rogers Developments told CNN.
"Twentytwo will be a truly 'social' workplace with different spaces for people to socialise, focus and energise. It represents how we will all be working in the future."
Besides the wall, Twentytwo will also have a fresh food market, a wellbeing retreat and spa, London's highest free public viewing gallery, and an "art walk" on the ground floor.
But "don't dust off your climbing shoes just yet though", says Spaces – the building is not scheduled for completion until summer 2019.
