This suite may not be the biggest on the list, but it is certainly one of the most spectacular. Its biggest draw is the rooftop terrace, which overlooks some of the most beautiful attractions in Venice, from the Grand Canal to the Santa Maria della Salute church. The suite’s design has been overseen by Gilles & Boissier, who, alongside landscape designers Christophe Gautrand & Associates have created a unique space with an authentic 230 sq m terrace inspired by the great French gardens. Mark Five Bedroom Terrace Suite, Mark Hotel, New York

Almost a decade ago, acclaimed French designer Jacques Grange put his own contemporary spin on what was one of New York's most iconic hotels. This year he returned to the Mark to revamp two of its suites in his signature style, the largest of which is an impressive five-bedroom, 455-plus square metre space on the 14th floor with enviable vistas across the heart of the city. High-end interior design touches include bathrooms fitted with a black-and-white marble bath and deep-soaking tub, where you can relax using fine Italian toiletries specially formulated for the hotel.
