Aston Martin’s DB11 Volante launches next year for £160,000

First came the flagship DB11 - and now Aston Martin has revealed the new drop-top version of its grand tourer, the DB11 Volante.

Due to be released in early 2018, with a £159,900 price tag, the Volante retains much of the coupe’s styling, including the British marque’s trademark grille and sculpted body panels along the wings.

However, says Evo, the new convertible variant features a “longer rear deck” that has “subtle sculpting around the cabin line and windscreen”.

The fabric roof boasts “a total of eight layers to insulate the cockpit from unwarranted road noise”, the magazine says, and can be lowered in just 14 seconds and at speeds of up to 31mph.

The Volante is powered by the same 4.0-litre AMG-derived turbocharged V8 engine that made its debut in the coupe version earlier this year, delivering 503bhp and 513lb-ft of torque to the rear axle. This helps the new car go from 0-62mph in 4.1 seconds, with a top speed of 187mph.

Although its 1,870kg kerb weight is 110kg heavier than the V8 DB11 coupe, says Autocar, the Volante “is some 26kg lighter and 5% stiffer than its V12-powered DB9 Volante predecessor”.

A V12 version “is not currently in the product plan”, says the magazine, “but it would be a likely addition later in the car’s life”.

With prices starting at around £160,000, the new convertible is around £15,000 more expensive than the V8 coupe, and £2,000 more than the V12-engined DB11 coupe, says Auto Express.
