Asda to sell plant that Nasa believes could stop snoring

Scientists say the pineapple plant improves air quality throughout the night

Supermarket chain Asda has begun selling a plant that Nasa researchers believe could help people to stop snoring.

The US space agency has come up with a list of plants that can improve air quality - and improve your breathing - and one of them is for sale in Asda for £12.

The supermarket chain says it has introduced a new, “snore-shattering” pineapple plant to its range.

A spokesman for the supermarket chain said: “There’s nothing more annoying than falling into a deep sleep, only to be woken by the sound of a chainsaw reverberating from your partner’s side of the bed.”

“As we enter the Christmas season – which, for many, involves numerous parties and events – snoring will become an even bigger drain on sleep, making the plant the perfect Christmas gift for any party-goers out there.”

Pineapple plants “are said to reduce snoring thanks to their night-time oxygen production,” says The Sun.

According to Nasa, the plants also improve air quality throughout the night and therefore aid better sleep.

Grown in Holland the plants take between 21 and 24 months to grow and develop the miniature pineapple that sits on top.

And through the simplicity of improving air quality with oxygen “it could help the 45% of Brits that snore get a better night's rest - and their partners too,” adds The Sun.

Phil Smith, Asda plant buyer, told the Manchester Evening News: “Snorts, snuffles and splutters affect a quarter of Brits. So, for those 16 million snorers, Asda’s pineapple plant could be a dream come true – even more so for sleep-deprived partners.”

“For those lucky enough to sleep through the night without the disturbance of snoring, the plant is a chic addition to the home which is easy to care for and adds a little touch of The Tropics to any room.”
