Bulger killer Jon Venables charged over child abuse images
Venables and Robert Thompson murdered toddler James Bulger when they were 10 years old
Jon Venables, one of the killers of toddler James Bulger, has been charged over offences related to indecent images of children. He will be tried in private at an unnamed court.
“The man formerly known as Jon Venables has been charged with offences relating to indecent images of children,” the Crown Prosecution Service said. “In order that justice can be done, no further details are being released.”
Venables, who is now 35, was recalled to prison in November, the BBC says.
He served eight years for the murder of James, aged two, in 1993. He and Thompson were released in 2001 with new identities and granted lifetime anonymity.
Venables was recalled to prison in 2010 for possession of child abuse images and breaching his parole conditions by visiting Merseyside.
