Landmark living: how much do properties cost near famous icons?

An apartment-sized property surrounding the Eiffel Tower comes with a price tag of £486,244

If you want to buy a property near the Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty or Big Ben, expect to pay a premium for the privilege of living near an iconic landmark.

International real estate, residency and citizenship firm Astons has analysed property prices surrounding 11 famous global landmarks to find which attracted the highest price tag.

Paris ranks top with an average apartment-sized property surrounding the Eiffel Tower coming in at £486,244. New York’s Statue of Liberty, London’s Big Ben, the Sydney Opera House and Rome’s Colosseum also rank as some of the most expensive real estate landmarks around the world.

At the other end of the scale, an apartment-sized property within reach of Cairo’s Pyramids of Giza would set you back just £27,431, while the Taj Mahal in Agra, India and Rio’s Christ the Redeemer also present some far more affordable options.

“The global property market is wonderfully diverse and allows many investors to build a wide portfolio based on their personal criteria and requirements,” said Astons managing director Arthur Sarkisian. “Of course, investing in the global go-to destinations of Paris, New York and London will come at a considerably higher cost, but even these premier locations will offer a range of investment opportunities at varying price points.”

Here’s how the landmarks rank in terms of apartment-sized property values in surrounding areas.
