VIDEO: Rappers arrested over mass brawl at French airport
Flights delayed as music stars Kaaris and Booba fight in duty free
Two of France’s most famous rappers have been arrested over a mass brawl at a Paris airport that led to the closure of a departures hall and caused flight delays.
Feuding music stars Booba and Kaaris and their entourages rampaged through a duty-free shop, hurling perfume bottles and crashed through cosmetics stands, after meeting unexpectly at Orly Airport, south of Paris, Reuters reports.
Videos of the fight filmed by shocked by-standers are being widely shared on social media.
Eleven men were arrested following the incident, including 41-year-old Booba - real name Elie Yaffa - and Kaaris, 38, who was born Okou Armand Gnakouri.
“A small number of flights were delayed by 15 to 30 minutes at the time of the fight and the lounge was temporarily closed,” said Orly’s operator, Paris Aeroport.
The two rappers were reportedly on their way to Barcelona ahead of a concert.
Booba has been involved in a series of disputes with other musicians on the French hip-hop scene. He worked with Kaaris in 2012, when they collaborated on a song called Kalash, before relations soured between the two men.
Booba, has sold more than 2.5 million records and has won a large fan base with his “often raw and violent tracks [that] evoke life on the street in the Paris suburbs”, says the South China Morning Post. Kaaris has four studio albums to his name and has sold more than half a million records.
