The UK’s best-selling cars of 2018: Ford’s Fiesta hatchback leads the way
Vehicle sales are down by nearly 3%, but EV deliveries are soaring by over 86%
The Ford Fiesta is currently the best-selling car in the UK.
According to figures posted by the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders (SMMT) this morning, the US motoring giant sold 5,564 Fiestas in October. This brings the number of Ford Fiesta hatchbacks snapped up by UK buyers since January up to a total of 84,980.
The company’s strong Fiesta sales put it “well ahead” of the Volkswagen Golf, which currently sits in second place, says Auto Express. A total of 3,765 Volkswagen Golf cars was delivered last month and 55,927 models of the German hatchback have been sold over the past ten months.
Meanwhile, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class is now in third position for the second consecutive month. The German carmaker sold 3,339 hatchbacks in October. This puts it just ahead of Volkswagen which delivered 3,297 Tiguan SUVs.
One notable omission from October’s top ten is the Vauxhall Corsa, which currently sits in third position for year-to-date sales.
The news comes after a good month for the motoring industry.
While car sales declined by 2.9% in October compared to the same period last year, electric car deliveries have risen by 86.9% and by 31% for hybrid models, Motoring Research reports.
The decline is far less severe than it was in September, where deliveries slumped by 20% over the same period in 2017, the motoring news site says.
