Patek Philippe's new ladies’ classic
A watch for every woman’s wishlist
Patek Philippe has released a watch that should arguably be on every woman's wishlist: the brand new Twenty-4 ref 7300 automatic; a sportier, more robust and, dare we say it, cooler version of its rectangular-faced predecessor which is still very much part of its ladies' portfolio and powered by a sophisticated quartz movement.
However, unlike the Twenty-4 classic – which has nonetheless remained a faithful best seller for the brand since its release in 1999 – the new Twenty-4 is powered by a meticulously hand-finished mechanical movement with a 21k gold winding rotor; it also boasts a round face inspired by classic pilot watches with bold Arabic numerals.
It's a strong and confident female proposition that's not only edgier and more contemporary, but one that puts design and function on an even keel. The watch is decorated with two rows of dazzling diamonds set around a sunburst dial whose beauty is further enhanced by the economy of line used between the lugs and the watch's standout bracelet.

In simple terms, the Twenty-4 is a more stylised and complex piece of machinery that demonstrates a clear move towards change: whereas the original (still available) is considered more of a jewellery watch, the 7300 is a bona fide example of pure Patek Philippe timekeeping excellence that will no doubt appeal to a more dynamic and youthful female clientele which is increasingly drawn towards watch functionality and technical innovation.
The 324 caliber, visible through the case back, is the same movement seen in the highly prized 5711 Nautilus and date display Calatravas. The rotor is a thing of beauty and one that showcases the meticulous craftsmanship upon which the Patek name is built.
Patek Philippe is famous for capturing a sense of ineffable elegance, and the Twenty-4 achieves this through subtle and well-considered balance of form: at 36mm, the watch appears bigger on the wrist than it actually is thanks to its oversized numerals and incredibly eye-catching gradient dials (blue or grey sunburst for the stainless steel versions; brown or textured silver for the 18K versions). The 160 diamonds along the bezel offset the severity of these standout design elements with just the right amount of sparkle.
The result is a chic timepiece that wants to be noticed for all the right reasons. It's a powerful statement and one which will no doubt increase the enduring appeal of the Twenty-4 name.
