Scottish chip shop offers deep-fried Christmas dinner

Dunkeld establishment claims its turkey goujons, battered Brussels sprouts and carrots and parsnip fritters are already proving popular

A chip shop in Scotland is offering customers an entire deep-fried Christmas dinner.

Dunkeld Fish Bar in Perthshire “claims its turkey goujons, battered Brussels sprouts and carrots and parsnip fritters are already proving popular”, reports the BBC.

Alongside the deep-fried trimmings customers are served with a giant pig-in-a-blanket – a battered foot-long sausage – and a deep-fried mince pie on the side.

Staff in Santa hats “have been dunking the traditional ingredients in batter and dunking them in the shop's deep-fat fryer”, says the Daily Mirror.

Eager customers are reportedly flocking to get their hands on the meal, which costs £10.

Proceeds from the sale of the dinner are going to the Dunkeld community, with a visit from Santa and his reindeer planned for local children.

Fish bar owner Scott Davie, 43, said: “People think they don't like Brussels sprouts, but they're always overcooked.”

“We do them from raw, and their natural moisture content cooks them through, and they are absolutely amazing.”

Describing it as a real bargain, Davie added: “You get a whole sausage and all the trimmings. It's really popular.”

The shop boss launched the entire Christmas meal after his battered sprouts proved popular last December.

The Perthshire fish and chip shop won a national award for being the best in Scotland back in September.

The Dunkeld Fish Bar beat the competition for the “best fish and chip shop” award at the annual Dine-In Scottish Takeaway Awards 2018, held in Glasgow.

More than 20,000 people voted in the awards, “which aim to recognise dedicated individuals within the takeaway hospitality industry”, says the Record.
